they are the cosmos come to rest in bodies of flesh and bone, with supernova eyes and black hole hearts, entire universes trapped inside. sometimes the stars leak through and worlds drip from their fingers like blood. they are careless destruction incarnate, all the secrets of space bound to earth in a form that can barely contain them, and even then not for long.

Here’s why I’m angry and upset at Dick Grayson becoming a spy and DC erasing the Nightwing persona (and why you should be too).

(Keep in mind, I’m not the most knowledgeable about Dick Grayson, so if I get a few details wrong, feel free to let me know).

We’ve all seen Black Widow kick major ass as a spy in The Avengers and the recent Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She’s a good spy because her morals are ambiguous. She follows orders without necessarily following a certain moral code, and that works really great for her. She does the tough and questionable job that morally righteous man would cringe at, someone like, idk, Dick Grayson.

(To me), Dick represents hope. He’s fun and willing to save kittens from trees. He makes time for his team, sings “Here comes the sun” when hiding from explosions, talks to his brother Tim about losing Connor, and is Donna’s best friend. Yes, he’s made questionable choices, but he’s grown from that. He has a certain moral code that follows to a T, and you can even see that when he becomes Batman! He puts more trust and faith in people that Bruce ever did and that really spoke volume to me. Hell, he idolizes Superman for fuck’s sake! He even becomes a cop as a day job so he can help people during the day, and when he realizes how corrupt the police station, he fights it. And now, they have him carrying a gun, and following orders of a higher power? I just don’t buy it.

Dick would never, never blindly follow order if it meant innocents would get hurt. He would never risk the lives of a few for the lives of the many because he would try his hardest to save them all.

Dick fights for injustice at all level, from the kitties in a tree, to a woman being brutalized in the streets, to high gangs and powerful gangs.

That’s what makes him Dick Grayson, that’s what makes him Nightwing.

I was going to write a long post about why I think this new development is the dumbest thing ever, but you pretty much said everything I wanted to say.
